An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced media coordinator to join the KwaZulu Natal Christian Council (KZNCC) Office in order to shape and develop a strong media profile for its ecumenical social and human rights work across KwaZulu Natal.
KZNCC is a fellowship of churches and church based organisations in KwaZulu-Natal Province, and affiliated to the South African Council of Churches (SACC). Its vision and mission statement is that, KZNCC and its members and partners cooperate to express their Christian faith, identify and respond to the challenges in the province and promote peace, justice, equality, human rights and integrity of creation, thereby contributing towards the empowerment of all who are spiritually, socially and economically marginalised
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Market the organisation, network with relevant organisations and seek fundraising opportunities. Proactively develop links with vital stakeholders, networks and partner organisations and increase their awareness of KZNCC and the ecumenical movement in KZN. Devise a clear internal and external communication strategy which includes the development of KZNCC’s marketing material.
i. Improve KZNCC media and communication objectives and communication plans
ii. Arrange continuous and systematic publicity for KZNCC and the ecumenical movement
iii. Keep abreast of news/ media affecting the organisation and the movement
iv. Write and produce publications such as newsletters, leaflets and annual reports (including language translation)
v. Write news releases, speeches and articles
vi. Organise or participate in organised ecumenical promotional media events and conferences
vii. Facilitate a system of effective internal communication
viii. Schedule media interviews for the organisation and the ecumenical movement.
ix. Provide the public with information or comments regarding important events and developments
x. Work with KZNCC sister organisations, partners and network organisations providing them with relevant information
xi. Take photographs for publications
xii. Write reports that portray ecumenical work in ways that inform and support fundraising opportunities
xiii. Facilitate maintenance of KZNCC website and effective use of all forms of social media
xiv. Working closely with the KZNCC advocacy desk and a teams of church leaders, theologians, researchers and activists in KZN to promote advocacy campaigns, information sharing and capacity building for transformation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
i. A minimum of a Bachelor Degree/ Diploma in PR or Communications (3 years) and 2 years relevant work experience
OR At least 4 years relevant working experience
ii. Knowledge of the print, social and electronic media, how it operates, and which types of media to use for different purposes
iii. The ability to design and implement a communication strategy
iv. Proven track record on knowledge of different computer layout design and writing skills
v. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and IsiZulu
vi. Time management, organisational and planning skills
vii. Ability to network.
viii Possession of a valid licence to drive a motor car
ix. Detailed knowledge of human rights issues and the media in KZN

TIMEFRAME- One-year contract from 1 May 2016 till 30 May 2017. Should resources be available and based on satisfactory performance, contract renewal may be considered.
Remuneration – An appropriate package, commensurate with the strategic nature of this appointment shall be negotiated.
